Assets are the actual files that make up a Media profile — each chapter, each track, each episode — plus optional extras like behind-the-scenes, interviews, trailers, and bonus content. Creators set tier access at the Media level, and fans subscribe to unlock the Assets inside.

The cleanest EPUB exports come from tools designed for the format. Recommended: Sigil (free, open-source), Vellum (Mac, paid), Calibre (free, best for converting from .docx or other formats), Reedsy Book Editor (free, browser-based), Adobe InDesign (paid, professional layout tool), Pages (Mac, free), or Microsoft Word (export to .docx then convert in Sigil or Calibre). Avoid Google Docs's direct "Download as EPUB" — it produces verbose markup that causes word and punctuation fragmentation in our reader. If your manuscript lives in Google Docs, export to .docx first, then convert in Sigil or Calibre. Also avoid PDF-to-EPUB online converters, which preserve visual line breaks as paragraph breaks.

Common causes: the file was exported directly from Google Docs (every typed character can end up in its own span, causing visible word and punctuation splits); the EPUB was converted from a PDF (preserves visual line breaks); the manuscript used soft returns (Shift+Enter) instead of true paragraph breaks; or Tab characters were used for indentation. A quick test: open the EPUB in Sigil (free) — if it looks fragmented there, it will look fragmented in our reader too.

Use real paragraph breaks (Enter), not soft line breaks (Shift+Enter) within paragraphs. Use heading styles (H1, H2, H3) for chapter titles — not just bold larger text. Don't use Tab for paragraph indentation — leave it to the reader. Keep inline formatting minimal: italics for emphasis, bold sparingly, no manual font color or size changes mid-paragraph. Avoid copying and pasting between different word processors mid-manuscript — formatting state accumulates and gets messy. Can I publish multiple formats of the same world on StarScript?

Each Production is scoped to one medium — a Book production holds chapters, a Music production holds tracks, a Comic Book production holds issues, and so on. If you want to release multiple formats of the same universe (for example, a novel plus its soundtrack plus a comic adaptation), you create a separate Production for each medium. Your profile ties them together so fans can find and subscribe to everything you make.

Each Production can offer multiple membership tiers, and creators name and describe their own tiers — there are no preset tier names. For each tier, creators pick which media it unlocks, set the price in 1-, 3-, 6-, and 12-month duration options (with optional multi-month discounts), and choose any benefits to include — exclusive content, early access, enhanced access, exclusive community groups, and custom perks. Tiers can be configured as a recurring membership or a one-time purchase, and a tier can also be marked free. Fans pay in USD directly or apply coins they have already pre-purchased.

Coins are a one-way, non-refundable bulk pre-purchase that fans can apply toward membership tiers and other paid content across many creators. Because the card processing happens in a single bulk purchase instead of on every subscription, fans pay fewer per-transaction card processing fees when supporting multiple creators. Ten coins equals one US dollar, and creators always see their earnings in USD regardless of how a fan paid.
