He handed me the glasses of wine, though they didn’t look like glasses at all. They resembled laboratory flasks, and the wine itself looked more like a light pinkish lab solution. We had talked about it before, and we chose it together. He mentioned it was a type of wine mixed with poison that could kill you easily. He said that many famous people, like writers, had used this method to end their lives. It's painless like anesthesia. First you sleep without knowing and then... I didn’t ask more because I trusted that it was a wise way to commit suicide. I kept the glasses in my hand, waiting for him to come back from the kitchen. We would then sit on the chairs next to each other, hand in hand, saying goodbye, wishing each other well, and then drinking the so-called wine to go to the other world.
Does anyone really know if there’s another world? Oh ok at least to be dead and get rid of this world. He came back a few seconds later, took one of the glasses from me, and drank all of it at once. I didn’t like that. I didn’t expect it, and it wasn’t part of my plan, so I paused for a moment, wondering what to do next. I was excited, but he didn’t wait for me or sit down. Instead, he started tidying the cushions on the couches, making everything look neat and clean. He then left to clean the rest of the house. He wanted everything to look spotless after his death, like a guest leaving a rental room and wanting to look classy to the people who would come after him. Was he thinking about how his mom and family would appreciate his tidiness after his death, or was he doing it just because he was anxious?
