🕯️ MIRIAM
🕯️ MIRIAM
Magnolia Bay
There are women in Magnolia Bay
who gossip.
Women who grieve.
Women who pray.
And then there is Miriam.
She does none of those things.
She watches the tide
like it owes her something.
No one remembers when she arrived.
No one remembers her young.
She does not age the way the rest of the town does.
Storms bend around her porch.
Dogs do not bark when she passes.
And the water—
the water goes still.
Some say she keeps record.
Not of sins.
Of balance.
Because Magnolia Bay does not curse people.
It collects from them.
And when the Gulf rises too fast
or the wind shifts without warning…
Miriam is already standing.
Barefoot.
Waiting.
She does not stop what is meant to happen.
She only prevents what is not owed.
Ask her how long she’s lived here.
She will say:
“Long enough.”
And somehow—
that feels like a promise.
